logo design concept // restaurant branding

This logo concept was done for an upcoming barbeque restaurant as an addition to a craft brewery known for their bourbon barrel brews. The name "Smokin' Barrel" could be interpreted in a few different ways, but the client specifically requested no shotguns in this design.. That may have been interesting, but I enjoyed executing this idea more.

This design started with a hand-drawn barrel. The trickiest part was getting the detailed barrel to work with a brush font, but I eventually came to this solution. With just the barrel and typography, I felt that the design needed one more vector addition to balance it out - and that is how the funky smoke came into play. This solidified the full logo concept, and also led me to an alternative, simplified lockup.
