'Giovanni's Room' by James Baldwin – Cover Concept - v03

My partners book club read 'Giovanni's Room' last month, James Baldwin's classic novel, and it made me want to try out some cover concepts for this gem of a book.

As I was developing these, Kyle looked over and said, "Why don't you do one with the room?" So this concept was meant to embody the spirit of the room, and the harbinger of death looming. I love the sense of atmosphere, mood, and the tone of the colors.

Fun Fact: The typeface was made using Kurt Cobain's handwriting, created by Nicolas Damiens and Julien Sens. I think it brings a naivety and personality that a traditional typeface wouldn't.
