QuickBooks Online — User Management — Groups

Hello!

A couple more shots from the User Management project for QuickBooks Online. In this design exploration I was toying around with some ideas to enable Admin users with the ability to create custom 'Groups' as a collection of users with similar permissions.

I used a side panel overlay to help users focus on the task of creating groups without distractions, while keeping them in the context of their work. This pattern improves efficiency and reduces cognitive load. Since the panel slide-out is in a separate layer from the main content, there's a lot of flexibility in terms of how content can be laid out inside the drawer. In my experience, you’ll recognize a great application of this design pattern when your design allows users to achieve their goals without needing to hesitate and question what’s going on.

What distinguishes a useful from a useless side-panel? Purpose.
