The Origin of Birthday Candles

We put candles on birthday cakes because the Ancient Greeks told us to. They thought that by putting candles on a cake, it made it look like the moon, so they did this to the cakes offered to Artemis, goddess of the moon. When blown out, the smoke was supposed to carry the birthday wishes up to the goddess
