Armanitola Government High School is a witness to the glorious history and heritage of Dhaka, the city of ancient memories of the world. The school started its journey in 1904 to enrich the history of Dhaka. This school was established in 1904 under the name of Armanitola Practicing High School of Dhaka Teachers Training College. That is why it was an ideal educational institution from the beginning.
The Armanitola School was one of the few schools in the English period. The Armanitola School, reminiscent of the Armenians, stands tall on a few acres of land surrounded by huge red fir trees, rich in British architecture, and adjacent to the historic Tara Mosque, a marvel of Muslim architecture and sculpture. Armanitola Armenian merchants in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries were the heartland or aristocratic area of Dhaka due to their abodes and churches, Brahmanical society and Brahmanical temples, and the location of some of the famous Muslim and Hindu zamindar houses in then East Bengal. So BT College was established there and later Government Practicing High School Armanitola School was renamed Armanitola Government High School in 1907 AD.
The Armanitola School was a meeting place for students of different religions during the English period. In the thirties and forties, when Dhaka was often the scene of communal riots, different areas of Dhaka became the abodes of different communities, so different schools became unwritten for different communities. But Armanitola School was the exception. Even in the days of extreme communalism, Armanitola schools have been regularly attended by teachers and students from both Muslim and Hindu communities. It is to be noted that the front entrance of Armanitola School was for Muslim teachers and students and the back entrance was for Hindu teachers and students. As a result, even if there was a riot in the city, the study would not be interrupted. That was the tradition of this school.
