The Flame Alphabet

The Flame Alphabet is a dystopic novel by Ben Marcus that tells the story of a world in which language is poisonous to adults. Words, regardless of whether they are spoken or written, cause distress to anyone over a certain age.

A spot varnish on the lettering causes the cover design to appear completely blank unless caught in the light, so as not to cause distress to any adults who may inadvertently glance at it.
