NeoPie Dial Input Concept

My daily job is to be on the bleeding edge of user interaction design, to come up with truly innovative solutions for problems that are not yet evident but will encountered in the near future.

These types of tasks always require the most detailed live prototypes possible with real sensor data, touch recognition, advanced math support and so on.

Before ProtoPie I had to spend hours and hours together with developers to have a demo to showcase for stakeholders, wait for them to be available if I had my "eureka" moment in the middle of the night.

But with ProtoPie you're able not only to patch up a quick app demo in a few hours, but you can actually prototype complex algorithms and models thanks to all the "raw" data that ProtoPie handles and makes available for visual decoding.

Here's what I'm talking about.

While developing various tablet UIs for industrial use I've realized that usually they require a lot of data inputs that are not usually very touch friendly or time effective.

You either need to invoke a keyboard, type in data and close it, spending cognitive time to return to the context you were in before, or designers add all sorts of steppers that take space and require precise aim along with additional time if you need to enter something other than 2 or 3.

Also you can use a slider, but again, it's spatially limited, you can have 100 values crammed within 3-4 cm of display estate that is helluva pain to set precisely.

My solution is to have an easy ad intuitive "jog dial" mode for each input field that is invoked by a long press.

Drag your finger around to set the value. Drag inside to cancel. That's it. Have fun playing around!

This Pie uses just two main components that talk to each other (another ProtoPie strength), I can add as many input fields as I want that will be completely customizable and work with that dial input with no additional tweaks.

ProtoPie can be used for making some fancy mobile banking or sneakers store app protos but its real uncontained strength is in prototyping the future.
Thank you.

P.S.: Gimme my touch point indexes! :( :D
