Glowing Gone - Jo Hawkes Design
For the first time in human history, we are on the verge of losing a major planetary ecosystem: coral reefs. In a last ditch attempt to get our attention, they glow bright vibrant colours just before becoming their white, skeletal selves. The warming of the oceans is causing reefs to die as well as the marine life that depends on it.
I wanted to help support Glowing Gone, a great initiative aiming to spread the word on this underwater extermination. I created three animated gifs with bold, gritty copywriting paired with the more optimistic colours of the Glowing Gone campaign.
I also had the thought: ‘what if our trees turned white?’ Surely such a display of sickness would shock us into some real action for the environment. Our underwater reefs are in that exact situation but sadly most of us don’t get to visit the bottom of the ocean too often and they go unnoticed.
