The Demon Cat (Fairy and Folk Tales of the Irish Peasantry)

From my project based on the W. B. Yeats book ‘Fairy and Folk Tales of the Irish Peasantry’, this illustration is inspired by the story ‘The Demon Cat’.

The tale tells of a cat, who breaks into the fisherman’s house in the night to eat all the finest fish and attacks family members when challenged. It is believed that he is the devil and only holy water can be used to defeat the creature.
