NookMobile Concept: Turnip Calculator
Turnip calculators like AC-Turnip and Turnip Prophet are by far to evaluate when you should sell your turnips for the highest amount of profit. For this applet, I primarily aimed to condense the interfaces from AC-Turnip and Turnip Prophet into mobile form while simplifying the information given for the general user.
The main feature is the graph, which takes up the most amount of screen space. While the main sites use a stacked area chart (SAC), I opted for a stacked bar chart (SBC) to separate different rates for each of the time slots when the turnip prices would change. While SACs are perfectly fine, especially as those types of charts are used for real-world stock data visualization, I felt an SBC was more appropriate in this instance since there aren't any minute changes that occur in between the time slots, and this is better conveyed through isolated bars.
For the color scheme, I honestly feel like it could use a bit more fine tuning. For the stacked bars, I aimed to try and use a turnip-related color scheme, although balancing it to fit more naturally with the background was a bit difficult.
For the main text entry fields, "Buy Price" is the largest as it's arguably the most important entry that any user would need to start the calculations, and each entry for the time slots were condensed into a scrollable widget.
While popular sites have all eatured extensive graphs that displayed probability statistics, I felt like this wasn't particularly necessary for the vast majority of users. The general format of this applet can allow for a chart to be integrated if need be, but the information I believe is most relevant to the general user is when to sell or not to sell turnips, therefore that information is prominantly displayed underneath the text entry fields.
How would you approach a mobile turnip calculator, and what sort of changes would you recommend to this design? Let me know in the comments below!
