DARA: Mobile
Converting a desktop website to mobile is pretty straight-forward—you cut up the content, copy-paste all the tippity-type, and you’re good to go, right? Well… yeah? Unless you’re actually getting paid to do it, and especially if there’s a unique viewing mechanic that you need to keep in both versions.
Beginning where all derivative projects do, we started off with our original art direction, as a guide to keep us on the straight and narrow, so as to provide DARA’s prospective clients with the same clarity and visual experience of the desktop version.
We ported the biaxial scroll functionality (horizontal and vertical scroll) that allows for seamless and intuitive navigation through the text and images, but we soon decided to go a step further and integrate a tilt mechanic.
This mechanic boils down to using the smartphone’s gyroscope to change the level of immersion while browsing the visuals for DARA’s interior and exterior solutions. It’s as close as we were able to get to a virtual tour without using a game engine—budgets and all that jazz. So, it’s not perfect but it allows for a much higher degree immersion.
Now, you might be sitting there and thinking “That’s pretty sweet!” And if you think that’s sweet, you’ll love our diabetes-inducing icing on the proverbial design cake—DARA’s logo design shot (up next) and some chocolate-sprinkled extras in its attachments!
