EMCR forum brand identity

About EMCR Forum:
The Australian Early- and Mid-Career Researcher Forum (the Forum) is the national voice of Australia's emerging scientists. The Forum provides a vital connection between Australia's most eminent scientists and tomorrow's future scientific leaders.

Rationale:
The idea behind the EMCR Forum logo is based around the visionary and genius mind of Leonardo da Vinci. Being brilliant in so many diverse areas of science, the logo was inspired by this forward thinker of the 14th and 15th century.
One example of his work which I think represents his diverse scientific thinking is the Vitruvian Man ('human') drawing. The geometric and scientific workings of this drawing are the main inspiration behind the logo mark design. By focusing on the bottom section of the diagram, a geometric symbol was created, rotated and turned into solid shapes forming a stylised interpretation and representation of Leonardo's diagram. This symbol identifies with the diversity of science, discovery, research and forward thinking.

Da Vinci believed the workings of the human body to be an analogy for the workings of the universe. This has a strong correlation to the EMCR Forum's important interaction and relationships with people. To strengthen this and to highlight the approachable qualities of the forum, Myriod Pro was set in lower case and a unique wordmark was created by customising the Myriod Pro font. The word 'forum' was modified by adding a slight curve to the stems of the letters, creating a more humanist typeface with a friendly and approachable sensibility.
