Childhood week: Summer time

The final day of the Summer 2020 #childhoodweek art challenge on Instagram. The prompt was "Summer little me"

I have fond memories of my little brother and I running along the foggy shores of Fort Bragg in sweatshirts and ocean soaked pant legs. I can still feel the coarse sand rubbing between my toes and hear my brother's gleeful cries as a rogue wave soaked our pants. We never managed to roll them up far enough.

Off in the distance, our mother calls for us, her voice barely audible over the roar of waves crashing into the cliffs. The smell of salt clung to our hair, and cold dampness sank into our flushed rosy faces.

I've returned to this place a few times since my childhood, each time I return, it's as if I'm stepping into a photograph. Nothing ever changes.
