Breonna Taylor
As we celebrate Juneteenth today, let us keep in mind that even though slavery was abolished, Jim Crow ended and black people in America gained voting rights, we still have a lot of work to do in terms of dismantling systemic racism.
One of the many levers of this oppressive system is police brutality. Breonna Taylor was murdered in her own home in Louisville Kentucky while she was in bed. The police suspected her of receiving packages of drugs in her home even though she was a respected EMT working in two hospitals who dedicated herself to saving lives. Despite widespread public outcry, the officers responsible for her death have not been brought to justice.
We cannot rest until justice has been rendered for Breonna Tayor's murder. We can no longer stand aside and observe the erasure of black and brown lives right in front of our eyes.
BLACK LIVES MATTER!
