Artwork // Conscription is made mandatory in India
Artwork for Indianama
Time and again, our country stands at a crossroad, one that sets course for several other timelines. One such moment would have occurred when conscription was declared mandatory for all Indians. Military life comes with extreme pressure, extraordinary adaptability, and discipline.
We focus on the lifestyle impact of that moment in the present. And there's no better place to explore the idea of lifestyle change rather than a local market.
Here we re-imagine how an Indian market would look like in such a scenario. Will Uber be replaced by military helicopters? Will there be more Military Strategy training centers than CAT or GMAT ones? How mainstream will the military haircut get? In fact, the military culture can be so imbibed and intertwined in citizens as a result of serving in the armed forces. You can notice that in the walking style and formations. In our version of the military driven India, there would have been equal representation. Perhaps "How's the josh?" would also be the widespread slogan of the nation.
We believe these lifestyle changes would have given way for larger cultural, political and policy impact. After all it's the beliefs that lead to actions. But how would they impact your life - if you were told to go join the military today? In a good or bad way? We leave that open for you to think.
