Black Lives Matter

Reading the news these last two weeks coming from America has been heartbreaking and devastating. So sad and terrifying to see how racism against black people is still so present and the wounds so open, not only en The US, but in Europe too. It's always more complicated for a non-native English speaker like me, expressing myself about sensitive topics as racism or social inequalities, but I'm going to do my best.

Like many others, I was thinking a lot about my role as an artist to contribute in some way to the cause from my position of a European white privileged man. I wasn't sure of making an illustration about George Floyd and all the pain the African-American community is going through, not only today, but since 1500. I didn't want to contribute with any anti-police bullshit, looking for likes or shares and promoting violence, which is the opposite thing the American people need right now and the opposite thing the Floyd's Family is demanding from the protesters in the streets. But at the same time, art is power too, and thanks for that I can communicate with you and let you know my thoughts about the racial problem, just with the excuse of uploading an Instagram post, so we can start a conversation to see how we can fix this issue all together. Anyhow, it's hard to imagine myself being a black man (in any part of the world), feeling in my bones what it's like to live with that pressure, permanent oppression, fear, and covered and uncovered discrimination. We have to stop this. We have to start learning more about what it means, its terrible consequences, and sharing positive ideas and resources with friends and family to keep educating everyone close to you regarding this huge issue.

The governments are lying to us, selling imaginary scenarios where all of us are supposed to be equals and tolerant with each other, but that's not the reality, the gaps caused because of our color skin are in every level of our societies, companies, schools, etc. Deep inside of the brains of every generation, dividing us, and making us more manipulable. Looks like we can't face and start to amend the problems of our past, so mistakes of the human being are seeds from the flourishing of capitalism, all for greed and power. We can't keep acting like everything is fine, we have to rise up, not only the fists, but our voices too, because every little action you do against racism, even in your ordinary everyday life, it makes a difference. So let's contribute to the cause however you can. Now or never.
