Klee City — Learn to Draw Marathon, Day 7

This is the city drawn based on Paul Klee work. My city has a story. People tried to build a castle higher than a sun. They also put a sun-like sculpture on the right tower.

While sketching I imagined that I build the city with wooden blocks. This helped me to decide what shape should I put right now.

Also I came up with set of rules for colours using:
1) the blocks become lighter and brighter upwards;
2) rule 1 repeats in fractals for the whole city, the piece over the gate and the castle on the hill;
3) there should not be two blocks next to each other with the same colour.

What I learned:
— accurate eye can give more cute results that Illustrator matching tool;
— a picture should have a story, it helps to decide if questions appear;
— how to come up with a set of rules for choosing the colours;
— Klee is a very talented painter!
