Recreating an Illuminated Frontispiece from 15th Century Qur’an

This is a personal piece I worked on.

A digital rendition of an illuminated Shamseh, meaning the sun. From a 15th century Timurid copy of the Qur’an. The original was made with gold and pigments such as lapiz lazuli.

The moment I saw this, I was so captivated, I decided to give it a try. I thought it would be a good way to analyze and study.

I tried to be as honest as possible to the original work taking few digital liberties.
