Tangerine Nights

Over the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to travel extensively in India; through cities and rural countrysides, mountains and grasslands alike. These journeys have helped me discover the subtle nuances in the varied landscapes I’ve come to see and experience. During the lockdown, I often found myself wondering about these landscapes, now bereft of humans, somewhat truly and completely wild. This series is an ode to the same landscapes, once witnessed, now reimagined. I’ve slowly adapted my sense of colors and illustration style to a stage where I’m now happy to showcase the latest Illustrations from the series.

Inspired from a beautiful scene in the 2019 Malayalam hit 'Kumbalangi Nights' showcased backwaters sparkling in a fluorescent blue glow. This sequence portrayed the natural phenomenon know as sea sparkle or bioluminescence.

Sea sparkle can be witnessed along the backwater abutting the sea off kochi during March-April. As the wind creates waves, this natural wonder becomes more visible.
