Stone Lodge Visual Style: Unused Direction

Hey dribbbsters. Sometimes people come to me for something in particular, but other times they’re looking for big-picture comprehensive help. These types of requests really make my heart swell, because it’s a chance to build something from the ground up, emphasize the importance of consistency, and write some solid rules around type, photography, and color.

I like to start these projects with something I’ve called Visual Style — where we pick two or three different potential applications, and see how an overall vibe plays out across them. These applications aren’t “real” — at this stage it’s less about actual content and more about how content is presented.

This is one of two directions that I did for the Stone Lodge, a restaurant in Michigan. We ended up swinging the other way. Although this direction didn’t quite reflect SL’s personality, I think it turned out real pretty. Another addition to the graveyards of dribbble.

Designers — how do y’all approach the early days of developing a brand? Would love to compare notes.

Hope everybody’s swell.
