100 Famous Brands of EDO: Wings of Forrest
Japanese culture and branding are my long standing passions, which i would like to combine in this project. Furthermore, i'm sure that it's extremely pertinent pair.
Traditional japanese family crests "kamon" ("家紋") are great examples of minimalistic logos. The influence of their aesthetics could be noticed not only in world brands' logos, but even in the "Star Wars" symbolics. Ukiyo-e ("浮世絵"), which translates from Japanese as "pictures of the floating world", is the well-known genre of Japanese art.
The Edo period ("江戸時代") was its heyday. At that time the main bestseller of the Ukiyo-e had been created. In this project i try to make some sort of fanpick inspired by the Utagawa Hiroshige's ("歌川 広重") "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo " ("名所江戸百景"). Also thanks for the inspiration to other my favorite Ukiyo-e geniuses Utagawa Kunisada ("歌川 国貞"), Utagawa Kuniyoshi ("歌川 國芳") and Tsukioka Yoshitoshi ("月岡 芳年"). I'm excited to share with you the first volume of the "100 Famous Brands of EDO".
