Rights not roses

I was watching a new series on hbo called ‘Mrs America’ the other day that tells the story of the movement to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment and the unexpected backlash led by a conservative woman called Phyllis Schlafly.

And so there’s a scene in the last episode where one of these anti ERA women (who is plaid by Sarah Paulson) says to another character “We want roses not rights”! That just made me so upset I almost forgot this was a movie after all. It is inspired by real events so I guess that’s why it managed to get a bigger reaction out of me.
