Burning of Columbia
For the past seven months or so, Luke Hodges has been working on some creative projects about the news and our... shall we say... fractured media landscape.
One of those projects is his 2-color Riso zine, “Cump,” which exhumes Civil War era coverage of the Burning of Columbia, SC to address the enduring influence of Confederate lies on the city. I was commissioned to design and layout the zine featuring Luke’s collages of Sherman, his film photography, and cyanotypes of archival Columbia photographs at the beginning of Reconstruction. Printed by The lovely folx at Woolly Press in Asheville, NC!
