I need some HELP!

See this and the previous shot.

The client is saying the red is too harsh and needs to be softened. Trying semi opaque reds though just makes a horrid pink. So instead of a solid block for the navigation (as in the next image) I tried an underline. Still not happy with it.

Do you guys have any suggestions?
