Gig Poster Assignment
For my Advertising Design course at Saint Norbert College, we were asked to create a large gig poster & logo for a fake band. Since I am a sucker for the posters & artwork of bands such as My Bloody Valentine, The Flaming Lips & Sonic Youth, I thought creating a digital collage for my poster with a psychedelic-like logo would be a fun challenge. The person in the collage is made up of a stock photo of a flower & the body of a classic actress, the images heavily distressed & turned into halftones. The background, meanwhile, is made up an outer space photo & some homemade marbled paper textures. I chose to create the band’s logo by utilizing the photocopy feature on my printer, heavily stretching & roughening up a sans serif typeface in order to give the design a bit more grit & visual interest. I thought the end product turned out quite successful, as it is both intriguing & representative of the kind of music that influenced this poster.
