Some early exploration for a radical frontend dev @ Magnetic. We landed on on editorial inspired concept that focuses heavily on typographic layout and minimal use of imagery. Messing with some image treatments to bring in a more abstract supporting graphical element.
Stoked on the direction this is headed. It's always rad to work with people who trust me to run with a concept, push the boundaries and do my own thing.
I've always been skeptical about sharing aspects of my process for two reasons:
1) In my mind there's no RIGHT answer when it comes to processes - that's the beauty of design.
2) I honestly don't know how many people out there give a shit - and that's cool with me too (warning to stop reading).
99.9% of the time I work from a base 24 column grid system that I've experimented with, adjusted and dialed in to my own preferences over the years. This is one of those .1% when I just started designing on a blank canvas and let the grid naturally develop from there.
I knew I didn't want to overcomplicate things but I wanted to make sure there was enough room for intentional variation in layouts and I could get my OCD grid alignment fix. I did work in an underlying secondary grid for the more content heavy pages that will follow. In the end, stoked on where it landed - really digging the extended middle gutter that feels like the center crease in a magazine.
More to come on this one down the road for sure. Full pixels attached!
