Rite of Spring | Instagram Post

This is an Instagram post I designed for a friend to advertise a virtual event she was organizing and hosting, via Zoom, comprised of poetry readings and music performances. All work performed revolved around the idea of the "unexpected.” The name of the event comes from Igor Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring,” an orchestral and ballet concert piece. Similar to how “Rite of Spring” was an unexpected and shocking interpretation of spring at the time of its release, today we are also experiencing a confusing and upsetting time in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The idea for this graphic is, in a few words, “nature gone awry.” I took photos of plants I had taken and I warped the color and created a sort of kaleidoscope with circularly repeating images. The advertising Instagram post would be two images that connect as one image - This is both images side by side so you can see how they connect.
