"RISE Reader 2": Adventures in UI & UX Designing for kids
This was an interesting challenge. First, I served as art director and project manager for the creation of a 156 reading book collection (print and digital) designed for grades pre-K to 7th. It required writers, editors and illustrators on four different continents to produce.
The completed collection was broken up into 8 "Stages". The reader app required a UI that would be both interesting and intuitive to use for kids ranging from about 3 to 12. I took UI lead. After leading a lengthy UX research and development process that involved things like sitting in a kindergarten for three days to watch kids learn to read, we went with my first UI design concept.
I created these in Adobe Illustrator to share my vision for the overall design, bypassing the wireframe stage.
