Two Sides of A Coin

I entered this art piece to an art contest recommended by my high school. I wanted my art to really stand out and tell a story. In addition to the immense use of color, I wanted some kind of contrast which reflected the emotion I wished to convey in this piece. Medusa, initially known as a ravishingly beautiful maiden, adored by all and perused by many, an innocent girl, is drawn crying in Athena's temple. The bottom half of the page is of Medusa's monstrous form, the side of her that everyone thinks of when Greek mythology is discussed. Just like in real life, there is always more to someones story, which is why I chose Medusa because she is painted as a monster when in reality she is just a girl who was punished undeserving by the jealous goddess, Athena.
