---13/52--- The Waxwing

Ok, listen up creative communities near and far, this is an important one. The Waxwing is a special place.... It’s a local and handmade goods shop that has become ingrained in Milwaukee creative culture. Everybody knows it. Everybody loves it. And if you’re a terrible gift giver (like me), this place is your saving grace. The Waxwing’s mission is to provide a space to introduce artists and makers to the community. It’s basically an opportunity for artists (new and old) to learn how to market and sell their work. They sell the goods of over 100 local artists and makers. Everything from jewelry and candles, to apparel and pillows. Stickers and notepads to posters and leather goods. Glassware and..... you get the idea. It’s the perfect launching pad for a small brand or product idea. I can tell you, the hardest thing for an artist to do is to put their work up for sale and hope people buy it. That shit is terrifying. The Waxwing creates a safe place to put yourself out there. Personally, I’ve been selling things at The Waxwing for about 4 years. When I was accepted to submit my work, it forced me to create things with purpose. I can honestly say it was a major stepping stone in getting me to where I am today. So... with all this COVID b.s. trying to tear us down... let’s rally and keep The Waxwing and local makers alive. Shop online, donate, share... Do whatever you can to support local. Thank you, Steph (Waxwing owner), and thank you to all at The Waxwing employees. You guys rock.
