Compass

I am trying real hard to learn how to play with textures and patterns in my illustrations. I still feel like they look too "out of illustrator". I am taking my illustrations from Illustrator and putting them in Photoshop and using a dissolve brush to mess 'em up a bit, but the edges seem so straight.

Anyone got some tips, advice, tutorials, or anything that can kind of get me over this learning curve hump?
