Anyway I am sharing this image mostly because I wanted to share the struggle I had putting it together.
Author Henry Miller said it best “Like every man I am my own worst enemy”.
I definitely struggle with this and it’s been my experience that many creative people have this same issue too.
This is how I broke it down.
The Struggle:
• Striving for Perfection < my Biggest issue!
• Comparing myself to others! There are epic websites/portfolios EVERYWHERE!!
• Creating unachievable goals, e.g. I must have 48 case studies breaking down my design thinking practices and etc etc.
The Reminder:
• Fuck perfection. The actual definition of perfection is ‘beyond practical’ so don’t let it derail you from your goals. Its not practical!
• Make small achievable goals, e.g. I’m going to add 1-3 images from this project to my portfolio. This allowed me to achieve goals on a frequent basis and it felt good and rewarding so I kept doing it!
• Its a WEBSITE-you can always make updates. Nothing is permanent these days!
• SHARE MORE, THINK LESS!
Hope this helps someone save time from what’s holding them back!
My next CHALLENGE: Launching my personal blog where i can talk more in detail about designer struggles and how I got past them!
Cheers!
