Dean College Bulldogs | Concept Development & Sketches

After research and strategy it's on to ideation and sketching. For Dean, this meant exploring a variety of poses angles and expressions - after considering profile and forward facing views, we ultimately landed on a 3/4 view similar to the statue of Boomer on campus.

One particular challenge of this project was illustrating the bulldogs wrinkles. They had to be defined, but not disruptive to the composition and able to scale for use at small sizes. To solve this challenge, some were rendered literally while others were implied using other features of the face and the bulldogs silhouette.
