A Year Without Sports
A year without sports. I had posts lined up to cheer on my beloved Mets, to celebrate Liverpool and Juventus winning their leagues, and to support the NYCFC boys in blue. However, a lot has changed in the past week. Closing down sporting events is with a doubt the right decision, but the losses certainly hurt. And these events should all make us appreciate the sports we play and support.
I just quickly want to shoutout all the student athletes in high school and college finishing their senior year. Those that didn’t get a chance to end their journey on their terms. As a former collegiate wrestler, I’ve had to deal (like so many) with my career coming to a conclusion. I lost in the wrestle backs of the NCAA DIII National Championship. I didn’t place in the tournament, there was no glory, no fanfare, but goddam that moment was euphoric. I realized that sports are always about the destination and not the journey. I ache for those that don’t get that moment, but also would like to remind those athletes how rich they are in mind and soul for having gone through their own journey.
