Baseball-Reference Play Index

I’ve been working with the incredible folks over at Sports Reference to update their Play Index Tools. These products let you search for any player, any team, any season, any game, or any play in the history of sports. There is an incredible amount of data to search and there were many disparate interfaces to do so.

I audited the existing tools and presented a framework that would work with all of their existing tools across all sports (and would be extendable for new features). We’re currently in user testing (it’s going great) and are set to launch soon!

Some key highlights of the new UI framework:

• Results are shown right away, so the user can see right away what type of results they’ll get from this tool before entering any criteria.

* New left-right panes with filters on the left and results on the right. Less scrolling back and forth between the two. Added bonus: The filters now appear exactly the same on desktop and mobile since they are already stacked.

* The most commonly used filters appear by default, but all other filters are hidden until you need them and organized in groups so you don't need to hunt for them.
