Stitch Selection Interface Prototype

This is a shot from a project I had done at Politecnico di Milano where I had gone for an exchange semester.

The challenge was, how can we make sewing machines more user friendly - we identified a pain point in our user interviews that first time users didn't know what pattern to expect when they made a stitch with a sewing machine.

So we thought, why don't we allow them to preview how the stitch could look like? So we thought a mobile app could be a possible solution. I coded the interface in p5.js and presented it as something that could run in the browser. You can check it out for yourself here: https://editor.p5js.org/attnchand/sketches/FBnqBQ-we

Should designers program? It would not have been possible to demonstrate this as an interactive prototype if I could not program. It helped clarify an understanding in my mind that as a designer I should be aware of the limits and constraints of the medium I want to design for.
