17th century West India Company headquarters and warehouse

Back in 1642 this warehouse got built by the Dutch West India Company (WIC). The WIC was one of the companies that brought a lot of wealth to our country during our colonial days, though it’s also a dark page in our history cause one of the main ventures was the trade in slaves.

For nearly 30 years this building also served as the headquarters of the WIC. From here they oversaw all their trade activities, as well as controlling an overseas settlement called New Amsterdam, which is now called New York.

Nowadays it’s mostly used as an office for non-profit companies focused on development cooperation for third world countries and others in need.
