Flowers for Algernon
This is a new year's card based on Daniel Keyes' "Flowers for Algernon," made for 2020, the Year of the Rat in the Chinese zodiac. It depicts Algernon, a house mouse, along with Charlie, the main character.
With its story whose impact completely changes when you read it as a parent, it is a novel that I still love today.
The first time I encountered it was during my first year of high school in 2002, when it was adapted as a drama in Japan. It's so nostalgic!
The ink I used is fluorescent pink and fluorescent green. I designed the characteristic geometric lines and patterns, which look like they were made by squishing pencils, with the 1980s in mind.
