A Manifesto Of Sorts

Hey folks, so I'd like to have a discussion about the underbelly of dribbble no one ever really seems to address.

Why is it that the community has gone from a tight nit group of super talented individuals, to a revolving door that never ceases to admit entry to every second-rate designer, or kid with a copy of photoshop? I thought there was some validity in being a little elitist and snobby about the design we value. I thought the purpose of having a niche community was to foster the growth of good design, because we as creatives have a general idea of what's functional or aesthetic, and decided to create a place where only the truly deserving would get invites to contribute to something special.

Every time i look at the debuts section its 20% solid work and 80% who-the-hell-was-lax-enough-to-let-you-in-here. Shouldn't we be a little bit discerning? Isn't that why we're great designers and creatives? I really think this is something we all need to talk about and consider, lest dribbble will turn in to everything we came here to get away from.

On the same token - if the work is bad, why the hell are people always ass kissing and coddling the unrefined creative? Someone puts up a first shot thats terrible, and its always "Welcome!" or "Great debut!" - instead, why don't we actually constructively criticize things? It's gone on far too long that everyone covets the MVP's here, and this culture of brown nosing runs rampant. How about we tell it like it is? Offer crit instead of admiration. Offer advice instead of praise. Growth instead of complacency.

Bad design is so tiring. Lets talk.
