Hidden characters on iPad keyboard

On the iPad keyboard (and also in other devices), when tapping some keys for a second, a pop-up appears showing hidden characters. A big usability problem is you don’t know beforehand which keys will show a pop-up and also not where a hidden character may be located.
A solution could be to mark those “interactive” keys with one or more of the characters they hide.
