Portfolio Redesign Mockup

I've been working on a redesign of my portfolio site, with the goal to simplify the design and bring more focus to the work itself. I'd love any honest feedback/criticism you have on this initial mockup. Any areas it could be improved?

My target audience is a mix of potential online clients and local businesses. I'm really trying to focus more on letting the work speak for itself rather than throwing too much text at a visitor.
