Who are you?
I’m a designer and illustrator, living in lovely Charleston, South Carolina. I grew up in Maryland and moved to Philadelphia to study graphic design at Drexel University. By the time I graduated, I was fed up with the cold weather, so I hightailed it down South to work for a small design firm in Charleston. My 9-5 mostly consists of marketing design for homebuilders. I try to balance that out with illustration-heavy freelance work and personal projects. When I’m not at the computer, my favorite pastimes include snuggling my two dog children and cooking with my soon-to-be husband.
What are you working on?
Right now, I’m working on the invitations and programs for our wedding. It’s really tough to design something so special for yourself, but it’s been an experience I wouldn’t trade for the world. I’m almost finished printing all the pieces, and it’s been really nice getting back into the screen printing groove. Hopefully by the time people are reading this, everything will be all finished up!
Choose a favorite shot of yours. Why is it a favorite?
This little piggy was for the label of a BBQ rub we gifted to clients this year at Christmastime. It was a quick, small illustration, but I had a lot of fun making it. I love that something simple can have so much personality, and it’s a style I definitely plan on delving into more.
Tell us about your setup. What tools did you use to create the shot (e.g. hardware, software, pens, paper, blowtorch)?
Nothing too fancy! My go to sketching tools are regular old pilot G-2 pens, Blackwing pencils, tracing paper, etc. When things move to the computer, I use a Macbook Pro plugged into a big ol’ 27in screen. Illustrator is my favorite, but if it’s something more textural or painterly, I’ll use Photoshop and a Wacom tablet.
Choose a favorite shot from another Player. Why do you dig it?
This was tough, but I had to go with this signage for Craftsman Bar by Keith Davis Young. I particularly love the color combo and that skeletal arm frame. Beautiful line work, skeletons…what more could a girl want? Everything Keith does is killer, love his work.
