BrakeFast - Nap Scheduler for Taxi Drivers and Gig Workers
This was made last year for a UX Design Challenge.
In many ride sharing services today, the drivers are paid per delivery. This means that they more time they spend on the road, the less time they have to rest and recuperate, and they are more tired, thus leading to more accidents.
The aim of the app is to maximise the amount of REM sleep (the most beneficial kind of sleep) in a day. This is the main screen of the app. It aims to give the driver a greater feeling of control over their routine by showing them data of their sleep patterns and whether they are getting enough REM Sleep.
The features of the app have been indicated above. The user receives information about the amount and quality of sleep that they have experienced. I have attempted to make the information architecture and layout of the screen in such a way that all important information is conveyed quickly to the user, and if needed they can dive down into their own statistics as well.
I see this as the first step in a larger service for gig workers to help them relax and refresh themselves. The problem is that there is no place for them to recuperate as they dash around our cities. Perhaps establishments like restaurants and coffee shops or spare capacity in offices that don’t see much traffic may be used as a staging point with refreshments and cleaning facilities provided to them. There is a larger question of mindfulness and care for those workers who make these services possible. It is important that they receive the support and help they need both from the platforms that employ them but also the consumers who interact with them.
