Powergamer - Reviews

Powergamer wanted a different way of rating video games that respects all different genres and budgets, and doesn't score a game with a number.

The solution was to offer the reviewer flexible criteria to rate, so that categories that are irrelevant to the game in question would be automatically omitted from the final verdict. The numeral rating system was also removed in favour of a more natural way of thinking. Very rarely do people think of games and movies in terms of numbers, instead remembering them as "good", "bad" or "ok"...so this system was chosen instead of numeral ratings.

The result is a system where two games can receive the same verdict despite belonging to diametrically opposed genres and having completely different budgets, without ever having been judged on the same metrics.
