Modern Gold Chapel Theme / Sermon Series Design

When brainstorming ideas with the chapel coordinator for Johnson University's 2024-2025 Chapel Theme, three key words came to the surface: simplicity, community, and focus. The overall design is simple, with a focus on the text, color and basic shapes.

The textured metallic gold and copper paper background provides a heaven-and-earth color palette and mixes the glorious with the mundane, symbolizing Christ's taking on human form and the desire of mankind to focus mind and heart heavenward. The circle motif at the center of the design represent community, togetherness, and also the life of a Christian turned right-side up—being in the world but not of it.

The central circle and the four thin lines pointing outward form a compass and cross-like image. These elements together also resemble a viewfinder. Christ is our field of view—our focus point—from whom we can learn what it means to ‘live worthy of the gospel of Christ.’ Johnson University encourages students to learn and practice living this out in community together.

This design was reconfigured to work for large scale backlit banners, small light post banners, postcards and posters to go up around campus in various locations and lower-thirds graphics for the live stream channel.
