Problem

Many restaurants need to use different systems for reservations, on site dining, and online ordering for takeout/delivery.

Goal

Hedgehog will let users reserve a table, order food and make payments using only one app. This will affect how workers and customers interact by giving them the ability to have a stronger work and dining flow. We will measure effectiveness by interviewing the users.

Hedgehog will provide hardware and payment processing that will focus on contactless payments and digital receipts. Hardware will include tablets, handheld devices and a digital display for the kitchen and bar.

Research

Contextual Inquiry

I visited several restaurants and observed staff using their computer systems.  I asked staff members questions about their loves and pain points of the systems they were using. I also observed customers interactions with staff and their overall dining experience.

Interviews

I brainstormed a list of questions and interviewed a small group of restaurant staff workers and their customers.

Competitive Audit

I performed a competitive audit of Hedgehog vs RESY, OpenTable, ChowNow and Square.
