DailyUI #022 - Search

Ciao Dribbblers 👋

This is my #022 #DailyUI design.

Design Hint 💻 - Design something search related. It could be a search bar, an advanced search window, a search function, etc.

The Idea 💡 - The idea for today’s UI design is a simple search bar for Android and iOS browsers. This is another DailyUI experiment following my #10, #11, and #15 DailyUIs. I want it to have a certain unique nature to it. The colour palette will be predominantly dark, with that "dark mode" theme running throughout. I may embed some neumorphic design into the UI, too.

Final Thoughts 🧠 - It's a vertical search bar! It has predicted results! and it's unique! I like it! First off, I took to Dribbble again, to draw inspiration from other designers on the platform. Just like my 15th DailyUI, I noticed that a lot (80%) of the designs for "searches/search bars" looked similar, so for that reason I had a quite hard time coming up with an idea that was unique. It was when I thought about mobile devices becoming larger with more screen real estate than ever before, that the topic of vertical-ness appeared in my head; what if I could design a vertical search for a vertical device (mobile). There it was! I had the unique idea, and now it was just time to design it. I took into consideration the tap-keyboard on mobile devices so that the search bar wouldn't be half hidden underneath it while typing (left). The predicted results (middle) would appear to the left and right of the search bar, with the entire "card" being a tappable button for ease of use. Once the end user finishes typing in the result and continues, the search bar would transform into a horizontal bar that would snap to the top edge of the screen (right), with the actual results listed underneath. The soft, hinted neumorphism throughout the design gives the UI a modern and sleek look, and the "dark mode" colour palette makes for a more delightful reading experience in any lighting situation and helps battery life. Overall, I am happy with the design and the concept I managed to come up with, and I think it certainly looks unique; it's the first vertical search bar I've ever seen!
