Lyft Shared Mode Naming
When I started at Lyft in 2017 "Line" mode was causing all sorts of chaos for Riders and Drivers who did not understand what it did. After 100s and 100s of rides interviewing Drivers and Line Riders it became clear this was a major issue for our community.
I advocated changing the mode name relentlessly at every company event, party, hackathon, design critique, etc. Ultimately this resulted in research which reaffirmed my findings and we changed the shared "Line" mode to simply "Shared" solving the problem for everyone who uses the Lyft service!
PS: I also worked with my coworker Gordon Tindall and the team to redesign the mode selector from the weird one on the left, and an even weirder internal barrel-roll prototype, to this flat material selector that won the Material Design Award in 2018!
