Expectations vs. Reality

Have you noticed the trend of “office illustrations”? The kind where generic people work in perfectly orderly environments? Many tech startups use them.

This project started as a regular set of illustrations. When the end of the work was nearing, it occurred to me how unrealistic the picture I was painting was. Sure, polished visuals are what you get to see on countless modern websites, and there’s nothing wrong with it. On the contrary, using sleek vectors for drawing mess on a table would seem like a weird thing to do - or would it not? I decided to have a bit of fun with these images, do some slight changes and produce their “honest” versions to compare.
